Blending valves & temperature controlled hot water.

A judgement of actual risk will need to be made based on the vulnerability of the population who may have access to washing and bathing facilities and the control measures in place. This will usually be Infants, Children, the elderly and vunerable people.

The health and safety of people who use care services is covered by the general requirements of Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Etc Act 1974, (HSW s.3) and by the risk assessment requirements of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (Reg 3) (MHSWR reg.3). The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) also set out requirements for work equipment including suitability and maintenance, and instruction and training. HSE and LA Inspectors enforce these requirements.

It is particularly important that where thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) are provided they should comply with TMV3 standards (part G3 building regs) and are maintained to at least the standard recommended by the manufacturer. A documented maintenance schedule which takes into account local conditions (eg hard water) and the risk of valve failure, should be followed and recorded. This service of documenting the servicing and maintainance of blending, we will carry out free of charge if we service and maintain your blending valves, shower and water control equipment.

Cold water storage tanks.

Water storage tanks are present in many buildings and provide water to many systems. To maintain a good quality water supply and comply with the ACOP L8 it is vital that these tanks are regularly inspected and cleaned. Over time debris and other contaminants will build up within the tank and provide a breeding ground for bacteria such as Legionella. Other harmful bacteria may also be present and if left unchecked these can create a high risk environment for the entire building. We can offer the service of Chlorinating and Sterilisation of tanks and water services to BS6700

Point of use Electric Water Heater

In some circumstances instead of a traditional hot water circulation system it might be better to use single or multipoint, point of use water heaters, vented or unvented ranging in size from 10 litres up. All sizes of unvented water heaters now are covered by G3 of the building regulations and should only be installed by a competant engineer with current certification.
